There is a reason why the State of Louisiana doesn't want anyone under the age of 16 to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Those reasons have to do with maturity and decision making. It's those same issues that police in Youngsville are citing as reasons for cracking down on unlicensed golf cart drivers operating their machines on the public roadways.

If you weren't aware, Youngsville like many South Louisiana municipalities has laws on the books regarding the operation of motor vehicles. Among the requirements to operate a golf cart on the city streets of Youngsville, the operator must be a licensed driver and be registered through the city of Youngsville. The operator must also carry liability insurance too.

Chief Rickey Boudreaux has announced that his office is going to begin more strict enforcement of those statutes as they pertain to golf cart operation by unlicensed and underage drivers. The Chief cited in a report posted by KLFY reporter Dionne Johnson that his office has received numerous complaints about kids in carts not following the rules of the road.

Chief Boudreaux stated in Johnson's report that,

If an unlicensed driver is found driving golf carts or any off-road vehicles on the roadways it will be towed at the owner's expense. I didn’t want to have to do this but due to the widespread issues throughout the city and in the interest of public safety we are forced to conduct strict enforcement.

I can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that some parent in Youngsville is going to spew in the direction of the police when their "little angel" is busted for acting like a jackwagon behind the wheel of a golf cart.

So parents of entitled children, tell your little angel they can't drive the golf cart on the roadway until they get a license. I know you don't think the law applies to you but it does and if someone happens to see your little nipper actin the donkey behind the wheel of a golf cart they can simply call (337) 236-5899 to report it.
