Last year there were 24 named winter storms, and this week The Weather Channel has released the names for 2019-2020 storms. Hopefully we won't have to use all of these. This is the eighth season for storm names, and they are based on criteria from the National Weather Service that include storm warnings, blizzard warnings and ice storm warnings.

According to weather.com 'Winter storm names exclude any current Atlantic and eastern Pacific hurricane names on the National Hurricane Center lists for the next six years, and any retired hurricane names (those particularly deadly, destructive and historic)'

Names are chosen by staff members from the Weather Channel, and weather.com
