A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Attorney General Jeff Landry announced more than $2 million in his campaign warchest. That made Landry - considered a potential candidate in the next governor's race - the top fundraiser among Louisiana's elected officials when he filed reports to the state ethics administration office last week showing campaign donations and spending.

AP reports Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, another potential gubernatorial candidate, reported nearly $1.5 million cash on hand. That did include $500,000 in personal cash he loaned his campaign account.

Both Republicans are expected to try to succeed current Governor John Bel Edwards, who will not be allowed to run in the 2023 race because of consecutive term limits.
