MONROE, La. (AP) — A man's body has been found near a Monroe building by a neighbor's dog.

Sgt. Mark Johnson says the body appeared to have been at the location for several weeks and was in a somewhat decomposed state.

Detectives tell The News-Star they believe the cooler temperatures have helped slow the decomposition process and may be a factor as to why the body was not located earlier.

Authorities also believe the man died of natural causes.

No identification of the victim has been verified. Police were unable Monday to confirm if the body is that of the person reported missing from Winn Parish several weeks ago.

The investigation is ongoing.
