Breaux Bridge Man Killed in Butte La Rose Bar Shooting, Suspect Arrested
BUTTE LA ROSE, La. – Authorities have confirmed that 61-year-old Paul Baudoin of Breaux Bridge has been arrested and charged with manslaughter following the late-night shooting of 45-year-old Jesse Cormier, also of Breaux Bridge.
According to KLFY News 10, the incident happened just before midnight on Thursday (Mar. 27), at a business identified by locals as *The Butte Bar*, located in the 2200 block of Atchafalaya River Highway in Butte La Rose. Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call around 11:48 p.m. and discovered Cormier deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Baudoin was arrested Friday afternoon (March 28) and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on one count of manslaughter under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:31. At the time of the release, no bond had been set. The investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement to KLFY News 10, Butte La Rose resident Pamela Severio described the tragedy as shocking for the close-knit community. “There was a previous altercation between the two individuals… when it happens at a bar, alcohol comes into play, and it ultimately led to a death in our community,” she said. Severio emphasized the rarity of such violence in Butte La Rose and shared that the community is rallying behind both families.
“This is about coming together, supporting each other, and making sure our people feel safe,” she added.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-394-3071
