Nine people will be involved in the search for Broussard's next police chief.

Mayor Ray Bourque will head the committee the find an interim police chief who will serve through the end of the current term. The seat became vacant after Brannon Decou resigned from the post amid a sexual harassment scandal. The next permanent chief will be elected in next fall's elections.

Joining Bourque on the committee are councilmen Kenny Higginbotham, Jess Regan, and Jeff Delahoussaye; Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber; St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Lt. Ross Stevens; retired federal marshal Ed Comeaux; retired Lafayette City Marshal's Office chief deputy Phil Conrad; and retired Louisiana State Police Sgt. John Trahan.

That committee will assist the full city council in hiring Decou's successor by reviewing résumés and making up to three recommendations to the full city council. The mayor and the council will review those candidates before the council makes the final decision on who to hire as interim chief.

Candidates may submit their résumés for the position by delivering it to Broussard City Hall or by emailing it to claviolette@broussardla.com. Applicants must live inside Broussard city limits and must provide proof of residence within city limits for at least the last 12 months. The deadline to submit a résumé is Friday at 5 p.m.
