Dollar Tree Price Hike? Louisiana Stores Could See Items Up Way Over $1
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) – If you’re used to walking into your neighborhood Dollar Tree and picking up everything you need for $1.25 or less, you might want to brace yourself—that familiar price tag is no longer the whole story.
Inflation has been no joke, and we've watched prices rise sharply across Louisiana for the last few years. Even a store like Dollar Tree, which spent years billing its inventory as "Everything under $1!"

But about a year ago, Dollar Tree raised its prices to $1.25. The move sent shockwaves through the customer base. However, the company is announcing another change in pricing, and even more shocks may be on the way.
At the Dollar Tree for... $7?
In a recent earnings call, Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling confirmed that the company is moving into the next phase of its multi-price expansion strategy, a shift that will introduce hundreds of new products priced between $1.50 and $7—and Louisiana stores are part of the rollout.
"This year, across 3,000 stores, we expect to expand our multi-price assortment by over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7," Dreiling said.
While the CEO was quick to assure investors that the majority of items will still be priced at the chain’s signature $1.25, the company is planning to expand higher-priced offerings into everyday aisles. That means you could soon see $5 bags of dog food sitting next to your $1.25 pet treats, or $3 candy options mixed in with the usual bargain sweets.
"Over time, you will also see us fully integrate multi-price merchandise more into our stores so our shoppers will find $5 bags of dog food next to our traditional $1.25 pet treats and toys, and our $3 bags of candy will be found in the candy aisle," Dreiling explained. "This is the next exciting chapter of the Dollar Tree value story: new items, more choices, and more savings."
Will Louisiana Feel the Increase?
For Louisiana families already feeling the pinch from rising grocery and gas prices, this news may land with a bit of a thud. After all, Dollar Tree has long been a go-to for budget-conscious shoppers looking to stretch every dollar. Now, while the store isn’t abandoning its fixed-price roots, it is clearly trying to appeal to shoppers willing to spend a little more—at the same store.

And with 3,000 locations nationwide rolling out these changes in 2025, you can bet Louisiana stores are on the list.
