Drivers Should Avoid Busy Roadway and Intersection in Lafayette
These days it feels like everyone is in a hurry in Lafayette, Louisiana and if you are, you certainly want to avoid one area of the city.
Construction crews can be spotted in many places around Lafayette, but there's one stretch of a busy roadway where construction is happening that you may want to avoid.
There's nothing worse than being in a hurry to get to work or to pick up the kids from somewhere and you get stuck in a construction zone.
And while we are often critical of the construction while it's happening, once it is complete we are often appreciative of the progress made.
Currently, in Lafayette, there's major road work happening on West Congress, between Guilbeau Road and Ambassador Caffery. If you are traveling west on Congress, you will see that the road is down to one lane as you approach St. Edmond's Catholic Church and Albertson's.
The road work has forced crews to close the inner lane, thus funneling traffic into the outer lane, which can cause major delays. In the last few days, while work is being done on West Congress, I have seen traffic backed up for several blocks as drivers attempt to get to Ambassador Caffery.
We share this with you so that you can plan your detour route accordingly, and we want you to be aware that there are work crews on the road, so please be on the lookout.
If you know anyone who uses West Congress for their travels through the city, you may want to share this friendly reminder with them. Don't let them become a victim of the taillights awaiting.
Stay safe on the roads, and again, please slow down and watch for those who are working the roads in Lafayette.
