The official start of spring is right around the corner (Saturday, March 20 this year) and after the harsh winter weather that we had during the last couple of weeks, we are looking to get outside for some fun activities. Louisiana is not used to having cold temperatures holding us down!

Our wonderful Louisiana Department of Tourism always has great resources for whatever it is you want to experience in our state, and they have a fun list of things going on this weekend. I've added in a few of my own favorites as well, so get out and enjoy yourself this weekend, fellow Louisianians.

  • Second Saturday ArtWalk, Lafayette. Saturday, March 13, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Enjoy strolling in beautiful downtown Lafayette with restaurants, art galleries and boutiques open late and featuring all kinds of vendors and special events. And this Saturday, you can enjoy the Marche de Arts at Parc Sans Souci, with many of our wonderful local artisans set up from 2:00 pm -8:00 pm.
  • Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air Competition. March 13-19, New Iberia. Plein air painters will be outdoors in the Shadows-on-the-Teche gardens and along Main Street. There will also be a Free paint-out, art exhibit, awards ceremony, and silent auction
  • Lafayette Azalea Trail Trolley Rides. Saturday, March 13. Sponsored by the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, a division of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. Free trolley rides to see the historic Azalea Trail on Saturday at 2:00 pm & 3:30 pm. Trolley car pickup is at Mouton Plantation in Sterling Grove Historic District.
  • Zydeco Marathon and Half Marathon.  March 13,14, downtown Lafayette. 5K and one-mile fun run on Saturday, and marathon and half marathon on Sunday, if you want to get out and support the runners. This is always a super fun event, y'all, but don't forget about Daylight Savings Time on Sunday if you plan on participating!
