Gun Recovered On Career Center Campus

Earlier today around 1:00 pm, Lafayette Police were alerted that a student may have brought a handgun onto the campus of the W. D. Smith Career Center, located at 200 18^th Street.  Lafayette Police School Resource Officers responded to the campus and located a 15 year old male juvenile in possession of a handgun while inside of a class room.  The gun, a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, was not loaded nor did the student have any ammunition on his person.  The pistol was recovered as evidence and the student was charged with Possession of a Firearm in a School Zone.  The student was released to his parents on a custodial agreement. The case remains under investigation.
