Is This Town Texas’ ‘Best Kept Secret’? See For Yourself
There seem to be two kinds of people in Texas. There are those who say very little but when they speak they speak volumes. You can usually find those folks in smaller towns like Winnie, Gilmer, Lufkin, and Lampasas.
And then there are those folks that won't shut up and seem to never say anything of significance. In most cases, those people are the ones who serve in the legislature in Austin, serve in the congress in Washington DC, or own the Dallas Cowboys.
And while Texans like to think of themselves as an open book for anyone who wants to read, the fact is this. We are a state of many secrets. Some of those secrets include how to smoke brisket, how to make barbeque sauce, how to merge on Central Expressway in Dallas, and the proper way to order tequila while stopping at Buc-ee's.
The folks at MSN.com recently asked their team to create a listing of the "Best Kept Secret in Every State". Just to give you an idea of the kind of "secrets" we are talking about, in Louisiana for example, they chose Avery Island the home of Tabasco Sauce.
In Arkansas, the nod went to Eureka Springs and in Oklahom,a the writers at MSN.com felt the town of Hugo, the "circus town" earned that distinction. Now, armed with the knowledge of what you think the writers were looking for, what would you say is Texas's "Best Kept Secret"?
If you said the town of Jefferson, then you would be right in line with the contributors who crafted the article. The town is situated along Big Cypress Bayou and at first blush, you might think you were in New Orleans instead of Marion County. There are ghost tours and great food, a quaint trolley system, and the Gone with the Wind Museum too.
From modern amenities to Antebellum architecture Jefferson Texas is not only a place to see but a place to be. It seems quite peaceful and calming and the exact replica of what anyone in Texas would want a "Best Kept Secret" to be.
If you'd like to see the entire list compiled by MSN.com crew, you can find that here.
