
Driver In Critical Condition After Crash On West Congress Street In Lafayette
Lafayette Police responded to a major traffic accident late Tuesday night along the 5000 block of West Congress Street.
According to officials, the crash happened around 10:36 p.m. and involved a single vehicle. Emergency crews arrived to find the driver trapped beneath the overturned vehicle, prompting a rapid response to extract the individual from the wreckage.
Vehicle Left Roadway And Flipped Into Ditch
Preliminary findings from the Lafayette Police Department indicate the vehicle was traveling westbound when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off the roadway to the right.
Investigators say the vehicle entered a ditch after striking a driveway, ultimately flipping onto its roof. The force of the crash left the driver pinned underneath the vehicle.

Driver Hospitalized In Critical Condition
The driver was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital, where they remain intubated and listed in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed there was no evidence at the scene to suggest alcohol or narcotics played a role in the crash.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
A crime scene was established following the incident, with Lafayette Police Traffic Investigators called in to process the scene and determine what led to the crash.
At this time, the cause remains under investigation, and officials have not released additional details about the driver.
