Jeanerette Police say an incident early Wednesday morning has resulted in the arrest of a suspect and some damage to one of their police units. Chief Dusty Vallot told reporters that a suspect who was being pulled over for a routine traffic stop attempted to run from officers and during the pursuit crashed his vehicle into a Jeanerette Police cruiser while an officer was still inside.

The incident began in the early hours of Wednesday morning when police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Clyde Darby Junior. Darby did not follow the officer's commands to pull over and sped off. This resulted in a police pursuit through the city and into the parish.

During that pursuit, it is alleged that Darby crashed his vehicle into the Jeanerette Police unit. After several hours Darby was apprehended and was hit with several additional charges as a result of the police chase.

Darby is now facing charges of attempted murder of a police officer, stemming from the crash involving the police unit. He's also been booked on charges of aggravated flight, criminal damage to property, possession of synthetic cannabinoid, and he didn't have a driver's license.

After being taken into custody Darby was transported to the Iberia Parish Jail.
