Jennings Pair Arrested In Ky. For Double Homicide In Acadiana

Two men are awaiting extradition back to Acadiana for a double homicide that was the focus of a joint investigation between the Lafayette and Broussard police departments.

At a Monday afternoon press conference, Lafayette and Broussard police officials described how two Jennings men were arrested for the fatal shootings of Justin Zeno and Skylar Barry on January 12.

According to police, detectives began investigating the two shootings that occurred on the same night. Investigators determined both shootings occurred in Broussard, but one victim was driven in his own car to Lafayettte where the suspects set the vehicle on fire with the deceased victim inside.

The other victim was found under a house on Regal Drive in Broussard.

After investigators determined the suspects' vehicle--a white Dodge Caliber--was seen near both crime scenes, an all-out search began.

On Jan. 30, detectives identified 29-year-old Christopher Burns and 19-year-old Tre'von Woods were suspects in the case. In addition, they learned Burns was the owner of a vehuicle matching the exact description of the one seen in surveillance videos near the scenes.

The very next day, Lafayette detectives contacted the police of Radcliff, Ky. because one of the suspects had ties to the area. The Radcliff PD located the vehicle with both suspects inside.

Woods and Burns were arrested on Jan. 31; they both remain in  jail awaiting extradition on two counts each of first-degree murder.

Though the investigation is still active , Lafayette Police Chief Toby Aguillard said the shootings may have been part of  robberies. Aguillard said it is believed the suspects and the victims were acquaintances.
