An arrest has been made in regards to hoax called in to Lafayette 911 on Friday, May 16, 2014.

On that date someone called 911 to report a crash on I-10 near the Scott exit and said people were trapped in the vehicles involved and said victims would need to be transported by Acadian Air Med. The Lafayette Sheriff's Office, Scott Police Department, Scott Fire Department, Lafayette Fire Department Rescue Unit and Acadian Ambulance ground and air units all responded. No crash was found upon arrival at the Scott exit of I-10.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office started an investigation that led them to arrest 45 year old Steven S. Baty of Duson on Friday May 23, 2014 and charge him with criminal mischief. Baty cooperated and acknowledged the call was a hoax. Baty was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility.

All entities involved stress that hoax's may delay responses to actual events and may endanger lives in addition to wasting taxpayer money.
