LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Two South Louisiana men did not get to experience freedom on Independence Day, having been arrested in a major drug bust the day before.

The Lafayette Police Department arrested Gregory Chaisson, 63, of Lake Charles and Blade Chaisson, 30, of Lafayette, after an undercover operation into the men. Both were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

LPD undercover agents recovered approximately 113 pounds of high-grade marijuana at a residence in the 200 block of Highland Oaks Lane. The street value of the drugs comes to about $1,028,000, LPD Sgt. Robin Green said in a release on Friday.

Both suspects were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana.

Recreational use of marijuana is still illegal in the state of Louisiana, though there have been efforts to legalize it in recent years. The Louisiana legislature has passed on several efforts to do so, however.

Medical marijuana use is legal if it's prescribed by a doctor to treat certain conditions.
