LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A man accused of shooting a Lafayette police officer has been booked into jail after he was released from the hospital.

The Lafayette Police Department said Friday that 23-year-old Chase Chaisson faces charges including attempted first degree murder of a police officer, second degree kidnapping, injuring a police K-9 and illegal possession of a gun by a felon.

Jail records show Chaisson is supposed to appear in court Tuesday. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Police say Chaisson shot an officer on Sept. 11 while hiding in an apartment. Officers were searching for Chaisson, suspected in another shooting.

Although Chaisson was wounded, police say he fled to a truck stop, forced himself into a pickup and ordered the driver to leave. Chaisson was arrested after a chase to Crowley.
