Law enforcement officials with the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal say two men have been arrested on charges of causing a fire in a jail.

What Is Known About The Case?

According to State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams, two men are accused of setting a fire on the evening of Wednesday, March 26, in the Eunice City Jail.

Deputies say that 20-year-old Kirmontae Venezia and 20-year-old Jordan Dwayne Victor allegedly caused an electrical short in order to start a fire.

The men are alleged to have started the fire so they could burn cloth material and paper inside the jail.

What Did Officials Find At The Scene?

Deputies with the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal say the Eunice Fire Department was called out to the scene around 8:30 Wednesday evening to deal with the situation.

Firefighters responded to the scene, and officials with the Fire Marshal's Office says those working at the jail were able to put the blaze out before firefighters got to the scene.

What Was Damaged?

Deputies investigating the situation found that a water line that was inside of the jail was damaged by the fire.

Firefighters were able to vent the jail in order to get rid of the smoke and smell.
