A police officer in Louisiana has passed away and now his department along with other police agencies throughout the state are mourning his death.

Sergeant Peter Foltz with the Kenner Police Department passed away in the line of duty. His cause of death according to WWL was due to a medical incident.

Sgt. Folts was with the Kenner Police Dept. for 20 years, and will be deeply missed.

The department did not provide any more details about the passing of one of their officers, but they did release the following statement:

"Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Sergeant Peter Foltz, a dedicated 20-year veteran of the Kenner Police Department. Sgt. Foltz tragically passed away in the line of duty following a medical incident. We ask that you keep his family, friends, fellow officers and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Gretna Police Department, NOPD, and New Orleans EMS for their courageous efforts and support. Rest in peace, Sgt. Foltz. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
