Man Charged With Shooting A Gun In The Air
Deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office were called out to the 200 block of Chataignier St. in Eunice to investigate reports of a man reportedly shooting a gun in the air.
Officers arrested 20-year-old Travontay Guillory in connection with the case and charged with illegally discharging a weapon.
There was some type of fight between Guillory's mother and another person, allegedly involving puppies, and Guillory is said to have fired his weapon thirteen times during this fight.
Guillory told deputies that he believed the man who was arguing with his mother had a weapon. The man even reached between his legs while backing his car up, and Guillory says he thought they were in danger.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz had this to say about the case, "A person has the right to protect his life or another person's life when in imminent danger to losing his life or receiving great bodily harm. No person is allowed to blindly shoot into the air and put innocent people's lives in danger."
