Mayor Ken Ritter told KPEL the most important thing Youngsville residents can do is stay off the roads. He explained first responders are currently assisting residents leave flooded homes, but when they have to respond to stranded motorists, it stretches resources and manpower.

Ritter added that the first responders--including the city's fire and police departments-- city hall staff and the city council members are all working together to coordinate emergency services.

The city established Green T. Lindon Elementary as a temporary shelter for those evacuated from their flooded homes, but Ritter said officials may soon find another site.
