A member of the New Iberia City Council is facing charges this morning following her arrest on Friday night. New Iberia Police say they were called to the scene of a crash Friday evening at about 9 pm. Upon arrival at the scene, officers believed one of the principles in that crash was driving under the influence. That individual, New Iberia City Councilwoman Natalie Lopez, was arrested and charged.

Booking records out of Iberia Parish say that Lopez is facing a multitude of charges stemming from the Friday night incident. Lopez is reportedly facing charges of driving while intoxicated, no liability insurance, battery of a police officer, and careless operation of a vehicle.

Lopez was arrested on similar charges earlier this year. In fact, it was in January when Lopez was charged with DWI along with child endangerment, resisting an officer, and other violations. Following that arrest, Lopez addressed members of the Iberia Council and apologized to her constituents.

According to public records Lopez was not still housed in the Iberia Parish Jail as of Saturday afternoon. We expect to learn more about the case later today. Although it has not been made clear if and when Lopez will address the media, her constituents, or her fellow members of the council.
