It's never a good time to get arrested for a DWI. Even worse timing is when you do that while you are running for public office in Louisiana.

That is the exact scenario for the Pine Prairie police chief who has been accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and obstructing public passages, according to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.

81-year-old Landry Charles Deshotel was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one count of obstructing public passages.

Both charges are misdemeanors, though, according to booking information from the sheriff's office.

Deshotel was released from custody around 4:00 pm on Monday, November 4.

This isn't the first time Deshotel has had issues with driving under the influence. Back in January 2023, he was arrested in Turkey Creek and charged with driving while intoxicated.

(We couldn't find any updates on this case and what ended up happening with those charges.)

As mentioned earlier, this latest arrest for Deshotel is not the best timing for the current police chief. He is one of five candidates running in the Pine Prairie police chief race.

The other candidates are Gilbert Bordelon, Joey Fontentot, Shane Guillory, and Joshua Uhlman.

This is a developing story and we will provide updates as new information is released.
