21-year-old Darwin Fontenot, a Port Barre police officer, has bonded out of jail after he was arrested and charged with Malfeasance in Office and 3rd Degree Rape.

In a press release sent out by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Port Barre Police Chief Deon Boudreaux informed him about a complaint of possible malfeasance in office being lodged against Fontenot. According to our news partners at KATC, the complaint was made by a Chalmette woman against Fontenot after he pulled her over on US 190 for speeding. Chief Boudreaux told KATC that the woman had other violations and that sexual activity was allegedly offered as a trade for leniency.

Chief Boudreaux says Fontenot admitted to him that the sexual activity happened, after his shift was over.

Fontenot has been placed on administrative leave until termination.
