Just when you thought you could start to put away the jackets and sweaters in favor of t-shirts and shorts comes another cool snap courtesy of Mother Nature. A low-pressure system and cold front currently over the Southern Plains is expected to move into Acadiana late in the day Saturday. That will mean cooler weather for Sunday.

This weather system is expected to bring an increased threat of rain and thundershowers to the area Saturday night and much cooler weather for Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center is not forecasting a large severe weather threat with this system, at least for South Louisiana. There could be stronger storms later this weekend in Mississippi and Alabama.

The forecast for today calls for mostly cloudy skies and continued warm conditions. By Saturday rain chances will be on the increase throughout the day. Saturday night is when forecasters have the largest probability of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast.

By Sunday temperatures across the region could be as much as 20 degrees cooler than they were on Saturday. The forecast high for Saturday is 80 degrees, meanwhile, the outlook for Sunday is calling for a high temperature near 60 degrees.
