Early yesterday morning Scott Police were conducting a foot patrol int he 800 block of the South Frontage Road of Interstate 10 in Scott when they saw a Silver Mercury Mariner traveling through a construction area to get to Mills Road and West Willow.

Officers saw the car travel across the center line twice then while trying to negotiate a curve in the road, the vehicle's right front and rear tires crossed the fog line and ended up hitting the shoulder of the road.

Officers stopped the car being driven by 27-year-old Jason Joseph Christian for a traffic stop.  They say the smelled a strong odor of alcohol, and they saw Christain swaying while he was trying to walk.

Christian was asked to take a standardized field sobriety test, and police say he performed poorly.  They arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and taken to UMC for futher testing.

The suspect was asked to take a blood test, and he refused.  He was taken to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and did take a breathalyzer test.  He blew a .039%.

He was booked on charged of:

Improper lane usage

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated due to his refusal to take a blood test.

As Deputies of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department searched Christian, a clear plastic wrapper containing half of a Xanax tablet and two white rock like objects believed to be crack were found.

Christian was then booked with the additional charges of:

Possession of schedule II narcotics

Possession of schedule IV narcotics

Introduction of contraband into a penal Institution.
