Sheriff: Deputy Had Sex With Juvenile Runaway While On Duty

GONZALES, La. (AP) — A former Ascension Parish sheriff's deputy has been arrested after authorities say he had sex with an underage girl while on duty.

Local news outlets report that 31-year-old William Lanoux was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with first-degree rape and malfeasance in office.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley says Lanoux arranged the meeting with the girl Monday night through a social media site. Wiley says Lanoux picked up the girl, who he says he believed was 18, in his unmarked sheriff's vehicle and had sex with her.

Sometime later, Lanoux found out that deputies were looking for a 14-year-old runaway girl and realized the child reported missing was the girl with whom he had just been with.

Wiley says Lanoux, who has been with the department since 2008, has been terminated.
