Sports Apparel Sales See Uptick For Saints, Tigers, & Cajuns
The performance of Louisiana teams on the football field is resulting in a spike in sports apparel sales. Sara Sanders is the co-owner of the Purple and Gold Sports Shop in Baton Rouge and says many fans are inquiring about the specialized jersey that Joe Burrow wore when he took the field for the final time at Tiger Stadium.
“We’ve had quite a number of phone calls as well as people walking in and asking us about that jersey. It was custom made for him and it is not for sale,” said Sanders.
LSU just wrapped a perfect regular season and will compete for in the SEC Championship game.
Sanders says the Black and Gold Sports Shop is also seeing a spike based on the success of the 10-2 Saints and several players are seeing strong sales on their jerseys.
“I would have to say it is a good race between Kamara and Brees, of course, Taysom Hill is coming up right behind them, not too far, and Thomas has done very well this season,” said Sanders.
The 10-2 Ragin’ Cajuns are seeing a similar impact in Lafayette. Sarah Armentor with the Ragin’ Cajuns Store says the number 98 is a big seller for its jerseys.
“That just stands for the year that our university became a university in 1898, so we usually put 98 on the jerseys because we can’t put on a player,” said Armentor.
