Texas Kid With Special Needs Left on Hot School Bus
The parents of a 4-year-old child in Dallas, Texas want answers after their child, who is autistic, was left on a school bus for several hours.
Araiya, a pre-K student, relies on adults to assist her and now her parents are saying the school and the district let their child down after she was left on a school bus.
The child's parents say they put Araiya on the bus in the morning, but she never made it to school. Once the bus driver dropped off all the other kids at school, he returned the bus to the bus barn, with Araiaya still on the bus.
Sadly, the student's parents say she was left on the bus for six to seven hours, while still strapped into her seat. Because of the child's condition, her parents say that she is unable to unstrap herself from a seat without the assistance of an adult.
The day the child was left on the bus it was close to 100 degrees in Dallas.
Araiya's parents say that she was later found by another bus driver when they picked up the bus to begin the afternoon route. She was taken to a hospital for observations.
While their child survived the day on the bus, they say that they will never let her ride a bus again, and they want answers from the school district.
WFAA in Texas reports that the school district released this statement:
“Student safety is our highest priority. We are appalled about the incident involving a pre-K student who remained on a bus yesterday. We are grateful the student is well and are conducting a thorough investigation.”
