On February 17, 2011, Lafayette Police charged Jermaine Ason with Aggravated Kidnapping and Armed Robbery for his involvement in the October 13, 2010, incident. Investigators were able to connect Ason to the crime based on information and evidence surrounding the robbery. Wesley Monroe was charged in the case on February 8, 2011. Both Ason and Monroe remain in jail for the robbery and for charges in connection with the death of Thomas Jolivette. Both cases remain under investigation.

Victim Robbed in Parking Lot

On October 13, 2010, at approximately 11:00 pm, Lafayette Police began investigating a robbery incident that occurred in the 1000 block of Johnston Street. The victim, a 21 year old male of Lafayette, had just parked his vehicle in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Johnston Street, when he was approached by two black male suspects. The suspects produced a handgun and ordered the victim back into the vehicle. The suspects then drove the victim’s truck to a bank at West University Avenue and Jeanne Street and attempted to withdraw money from the victim’s account at the ATM. The suspects were unsuccessful in obtaining money from the account. The suspects then drove with the victim to the intersection of North St. Antoine and Benoit Falgout where they stole his wallet and cell phone and then released him. The victim was not injured during the incident. The victim’s vehicle was later recovered in Debaillion Park. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
