This week there was another disturbing story in our news that just made me wonder again why we humans can hurt others, and why do people hurt each other or take advantage of each other?

All people who are alleged to have committed a crime or who are arrested for a crime are always innocent until proven guilty. So, understand that I understand, that people are innocent until they are proven guilty.

I want to do this piece about two people who have been arrested for allegedly tying up and beating a woman.  Rayne police say the mentally handicapped victim was bound with duct tape, hog tied, and then abused.  Two people have been arrested on various charges according to the police.  The victim says the two also stole money and prescription drugs from her.

I just don't understand why some people are the way that they are.  Why do people take advantage of mentally handicapped people?  It is a crime of convenience, evil, hate, what is it?

I hope that, if the charges are proved true in a court of law, that the two people accused of hurting this woman will have to pay to the fullest extent of the law.  I can't imagine how awful it must be to have someone allegedly duct tape you, hog tie you and beat you up.  Then to add insult to injury, they allegedly steal your money and your prescription from you.

Why do crimes to the handicapped keep happening?  Is it because they are easy prey to sick individuals?  Is it because they can, in some cases, have no one to turn too?  Is because the crimes often go unreported or judges don't hand out stiff enough sentences to the criminals?  I just don't know, but I do know that when someone is convicted about hurting the handicapped, it makes me just a little bit madder at the evil in the world, and again, I hope those that are convicted get the largest sentence that the law allows.
