Major Bridge Closure in Lafayette Could Cause Traffic Headache
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Anyone using one of Lafayette's major thoroughfares will need to know about a project impacting our traffic for several hours this Sunday morning. It's a project based on simple maintenance, but if you use the roadway this Sunday morning, you'll need to remember this so you can make an alternate plan.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development spokeswoman, Deidre Druilhet, says routine maintenance means there will be a closer to a section of Ambassador Caffery.
What Maintenance Project Is Happening?
Druilhet says they will be doing work on the bridge over the Vermilion River that is on Ambassador Caffery Parkway. We have had work like this done in the past, and with expected lighter traffic on Sunday, hopefully, fewer drivers will be impacted.
What Time Is The Bridge Being Worked On?
The closure of Ambassador Caffery (Louisiana Highway 3073) at the Vermilion River will happen from six o'clock Sunday morning through 10 o'clock Sunday morning.
The only thing that would postpone the work will be if there is an issue with the weather. While showers are forecast for Sunday, the project is expected to happen. We will let you know if that changes via our social media platforms.
Why Is This Happening Now?
Druilhet explains that routine maintenance must take place from time to time.
What Is One Important Aspect Of The Work?
In addition to how this will impact traffic, drivers, businesses, and residents in the area should know that emergency vehicles will not be able to use that section of roadway on Ambassador Caffery. "Emergency vehicles will not have access to the area."
Drivers will need to use an alternate route to get to their destinations on Sunday morning. You can use Camellia Blvd to cross the river. You can circumvent the entire area by using Kaliste Saloom to get to E Broussard Road to Johnston Street. If you are coming from the other direction, you can use E Broussard Road to get up to Kaliste Saloom. Alternate bridge locations include Camellia, Pinhook and General Mouton.
DOTD wants drivers to know they appreciate the patience you have for work that must be completed. They ask everyone to drive carefully and always look out for crews and equipment for whichever destination you might be traveling to throughout Acadiana, along with the rest of the state.
