One person is dead and another is recovering from minor injuries after an early-morning house fire.

That fire happened on Theriot Street just after 3 a.m. Friday.

Lafayette firefighters say the survivor tried to go into a bedroom to rescue the victim, but the fire and smoke were too intense. Firefighters found the victim inside a bedroom after they put out the fire. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family.

Investigators say the fire started in the bedroom on the bed. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. The State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting with the investigation.
