Acadiana Under The Gun With Severe Weather Threat Looming

All it takes is a glance at any weather radar scan that covers South Louisiana this morning and you can see what's coming. Early this morning a line of strong to severe storms was marching across Texas heading in our general direction.

This line of thunderstorms is part of a cold front and low-pressure system combination that is expected to bring severe weather to much of the Gulf South over the next few days. The Storm Prediction Center has placed almost all of Acadiana in the "enhanced risk" zone for the formation of severe storms.

Right now it appears as if the greatest threats to the area will be damaging winds, heavy downpours, and the threat of localized flooding. Chances are a severe thunderstorm watch or a tornado watch will be posted for the area later today.

KATC's Futurecast forecast model predicts the heaviest of the weather will likely move through Acadiana from the late morning hours into the mid-afternoon hours. Behind the system will be much calmer weather.
