Crowley, Louisiana residents have the opportunity to celebrate life and the Annual Rice Festival festivities by joining in the Annual Rice Festival blood drive.  The drive will be held Monday, October 13th, between the hours of 11:00 am and 6:00 pm, inside the Rice Festival Building.  “It is always fun to come together as a community to celebrate a harvest, and have a little fun,” said Christina Duhon of United Blood Services.  To tie that together with saving a life and benefiting our local hospitals is a way of life in South Louisiana.

It takes 250 blood donations every day to meet the needs of area patients and to be ready for emergencies. “We all expect blood to be there for us if we ever need it,” said Duhon. “But only about 5 percent of area residents donate blood.” Donors must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

Each blood donation can help save three lives. Blood donated here helps save the lives of patients in Acadia parish, and 32 other South Louisiana parishes.

Donors who donate blood will receive the following (while supplies last):

  • Ride bracelet for the Rice Festival, Sponsored by Jaguar Energy Services, John N John Truckline & Acadia Genera Hospital.
  • A bag of rice from Falcon Rice Mills, a long-time sponsor of the blood drive.
  • “I Bleed Pink for a Cure” t-shirt
  • Free shoe shine from Huval Boot & Repair for the first 100 Donors
