The Acadiana Planning Commission, announced today that Melanie Bordelon, the Acadiana Metropolitan Planning Organization and Transportation Director, will retire effective January 2020. Bordelon will remain in her position while a search is conducted for her replacement.

Bordelon has served as MPO/Transportation Director since the inception of APC and the Acadiana MPO. On July 1, 2015 after a vote of 13 city councils, parish councils and police juries, the Acadiana MPO was formed. Bordelon was immediately charged with reorganizing the structure and process of regional transportation planning in Acadiana. According to APC CEO Monique Boulet, “Melanie’s technical depth, understanding of government funding and her strong reputation with DOTD and FHWA were critical assets that have set APC on a path of success. I am grateful for her partnership in establishing APC as an agency with a national reputation for regionalism, excellence and best practices.”

Under Bordelon’s leadership the Acadiana MPO has allocated close to $30 million of transportation and development projects in the Acadiana urbanized area. Her greatest accomplishment has been developing an environment where all 13 parishes and municipalities collaborate, set priorities together and build local capacities in transportation planning and funding. Bordelon stated, “My tenure at the MPO has allowed me to use my experience in planning, traffic engineering, roadway design and construction to advance transportation projects in the Acadiana Region. I am proud to have had a part in the establishment and development of the Acadiana Planning Commission.”

Bordelon has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from LSU. Her experience with Texas DOT and the private sector both in Texas and in Louisiana focused on freeway and highway design, traffic engineering and transportation planning. Melanie returned to Louisiana 10 years ago where she began with the then established Lafayette MPO. The APC MPO/Transportation Director’s position is currently posted at planacadiana.org and will be advertised nationally. Resumes are being accepted at jobs@acadiana.com through COB 7/24/19.
