Arrest In St. Martinville Hit And Run Case
Back on February 8, Louisiana State Police responded to an accident where a St. Martinville man was struck while riding an ATV, and the driver fled.
Today, Louisiana State Police Troop I Spokesman Trooper Thomas Gossen tells us that an arrest has been made in the case.
Gossen says that 45-year-old Lamont Wiltz of St. Martinville was booked into jail on three charges, and they are as follows:
- Hit and Run
- No Proof of Insurance
- Operating a Vehicle with License Suspended
Officials say that 36-year-old Jamal Anthony James was riding his ATV northbound on Louisiana Highway 31, and another driver, not identified as Wiltz, hit his four-wheeler and took off.
James ending up going into a ditch, he flew off of the ATV, and he died after being taken to a hospital for treatment. James was wearing a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development helmet at the time of the crash, but that did not mitigate the injuries he sustained because of being hit by Wiltz. t
Wiltz has been booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
Gossen says in the Troop I area, they have investigated four fatal crashes this year in which six people have died.
