Arrest Made Following Huge Drug Bust In Lafayette Parish

A traffic stop in the early morning hours of Wednesday leads to nearly $45,000 worth of drugs being taken off the streets.

Lafayette Sheriff's deputies say 26-year-old Paul Powell - the driver - faces a slew of drug charges after approximately 221 grams of Methamphetamine, approximately 6 grams of Marijuana, 21 Adderall pills, 2 handguns and assorted drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. He and the passenger, who has yet to be identified, also face charges for running away on foot from officers after refusing to stop the vehicle for several miles before stopping in the 100 block of Elephant Walk Boulevard. Deputies say they tried to pull them over in the 100 block of Acadian Hills Lane for a traffic violation.

Powell has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

• 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute (PWITD) Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS)
• PWITD Schedule I CDS
• 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS
• Aggravated Flight from an Officer
• Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses
• Resisting an Officer
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Investigation continues into the identity of the passenger.
