Bishop “Deeply Saddened” Following Priest’s Arrest
The Rev. Bishop Douglas Deshotel released a statement today following the arrest of St. Landry Parish priest Michael Guidry for sexual abuse.
Deshotel said he was "deeply saddened to hear of the arrest and subsequent confession of Father Michael Guidry." His full statement is attached below.
Guidry confessed to providing alcohol to a 16-year-old boy before sexually abusing the teen. Guidry turned himself into the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office early this morning accompanied by his lawyer. To read the full story click here.
In the brief statement, the bishop went on to say the Diocese of Lafayette followed mandated protocols in this case by contacting law enforcement "as soon as this event was known."
