Police in Vermilion Parish will host a Blue Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville to honor those police officers in the parish who died while in the line of duty.

The Mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m., said Brooks David, spokesperson for Louisiana State Police Troop I. David encouraged everyone to attend to pay their respects.

"We're all out here for one reason--public safety and to keep the people safe," David said. "Whether it's a police officer that's killed or a trooper or a deputy or a fireman, we're all one."

For those who are not able to attend the Mass, David asked people to take the time to remember those killed, whether saying a prayer or just taking a moment "to remember the good they did for our parish and the community and what they gave they're life for."

"We keep their memories alive," David said. "It's just a good thing to get together and remember them."
