Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) has issued a Boil Water Advisory for residents in the West Bayou Parkway area following the discovery and repair of a broken water line. The advisory affects approximately 48 customers in the vicinity of West Bayou Parkway and North Lemans.

On August 22, 2024, LUS crews were conducting routine water line maintenance when they discovered a leak caused by shifting underground water lines. The damaged 8-inch water line has since been repaired, but as a precautionary measure, LUS issued a Boil Water Advisory to ensure the safety of the affected residents.

In compliance with regulatory requirements, LUS has sent water samples from the affected area to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) for testing. The testing process will take approximately 24 hours, with results anticipated by Saturday, August 24, around 10 a.m. Until then, residents are urged to boil their water for at least one full minute before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, food preparation, or rinsing food. The one-minute boil time should begin once the water reaches a rolling boil.

The advisory will remain in effect until LUS receives confirmation from the LDH that the water is safe for consumption and normal water pressure is restored. LUS will update affected customers as soon as the test results are available.

Residents can stay informed about the status of the advisory by subscribing to the LUS Outage & Events Map at www.lus.org/map.
