Boston Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Shot At Club In Dominican Republic, Currently Recovering
Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz is currently recovering after being shot at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic.
According to Ortiz's father, David was out of surgery and in stable condition just after midnight. The bullet entered through his back and exited through his abdomen but fortunately, no organs were compromised. Leo Ortiz told reporters that "Big Papi will be around for a long time."
The shooting happened at Dial Bar and Lounge, a nightclub in Ortiz's home nation's capital. ABC News posted surveillance footage that showed people scattering after shots were fired as you see Ortiz grabbing his side at the bar.
The suspect who shot Ortiz was immediately beaten up by onlookers and released into police custody after being treated. Police are currently investigating but have said that they don't believe the motive was robbery.
The Boston Red Sox tweeted out the following statement.
We'll keep you up to date as more information becomes available but a doctor working on Ortiz told ESPN that he's "currently out of danger."
