22,215 vehicle passengers were killed in 2019, 47% were not wearing seat belts. 55% of fatalities that happened while night driving were also, not wearing their seatbelts.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department is looking to combat some of those statistics here in the Parish. CPSO is going to be participating in a state-wide seatbelt enforcement campaign. This will be going on April 17-24 with the goal of reducing the amount of unrestrained injuries and fatalities.

The campaign is being paid for by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, who are giving out a special warning to pickup truck drivers. LHSC says that Pickup trucks are more likely to roll-over in an accident than any other vehicle. Caddo Deputies as well as other law enforcement will be on the lookout for un-buckled drivers and passengers specifically with pickup trucks, as they're more-likely to drive and ride unrestrained.

Sheriff Steve Prator had this to say about the seatbelt enforcement campaign:

“The best way to protect yourself in a crash is to wear a seat belt. This simple reminder could be the one that saves your life.”
