The Social Security Administration is warning citizens in the Acadiana area about a Social Security scam in progress now.  Most scam calls are coming from (866) 705-8406 and (888) 485-9383 but could be coming from others as well.

When you answer, the automation will say that the call is from, "The Department of Social Security Administration.  The reason you have received this phone call from our department to inform you that we just suspend (not suspended) your social security number because we found some suspicious activity.  So if you want to know about this case, just press one, thank you."

Do not press one.  Someone who does NOT work for the Social Security Administration will come on the phone and try to scam you.  These fake social security employees have already scammed millions from Americans, especially the elderly.

And there is no need to call the number back if you miss it, you're likely to get a recording stating it's not a working number.

The Lafayette Social Security Administration asks that you block the calls and report the details to the Inspector General at (800) 269-0271 or online at oig.ssa.gov/report.
