UPDATE 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 11: The teacher who died in today's crash has been identified as 33-year-old Robin Jeffers. 17-year-old Corgan Womack of Opelousas has been identified as the person whose vehicle rear-ended Jeffers' vehicle. The driver of the 18-wheeler has been identified as 62-year-old Patrick Thibodeaux of Lafayette.

Troopers say all three people were properly restrained. Thibodeaux and Womack sustained minor injuries.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted for analysis.  No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation.

3:38 p.m. Tuesday, September 11: A St. Landry Parish High School teacher was killed in an accident near Opelousas today. State Police Trooper Russell Graham says the wreck happened near I-49 and Harry Guilbeau Road. It involved three vehicles.

Graham says the teacher was rear-ended after coming to a stop for the car in front of her. Graham says that crash forced her into the oncoming traffic lane and she was struck by an 18-wheeler. Graham says she was killed on the scene.

The unidentified 33-year-old Carencro woman taught at the Opelousas High School Magnet Academy of Biomedical Services. The school is not releasing her name until her family is notified.

Graham says troopers are still investigating the crash. No charges have been filed at this time, but are pending the outcome of the investigation.
