COVID Vaccine Supply Could Quickly Outweigh Demand
According to former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the supply of COVID-19 vaccines will quickly outpace the demand for the shots. Gottlieb made his points very clear in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this weekend.
He continued to make his point this morning while talking to CNBC, where he explained...
“I think we’re going to run out of demand sooner than we think. I suspect that in some point in March and certainly by the end of March, we’re going to have to make this generally available”
Gottlieb is also a member of the board for Pfizer, who was able to get the first approved COVID-19 vaccine approved. He believes that the volumes of vaccine that Pfizer, along with Moderna (the other approved vaccine in the United States), and the soon-to-be-approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the demand for the vaccine in the United States will soon outweigh the amount of people asking for it. A concept that is a stark contrast to the attitude of many elected officials.
While talking to CNBC, Gottlieb added:
"I think we’re just going to have to open this up to general availability, which is good news"
Currently, the United States is looking to expand the availability of the vaccine through retail pharmacies including Walgreens and WalMart.
