Crash On I- 55 Kills 5-Year-Old Ponchatoula Boy

Police say a 5-year-old from Ponchatoula was killed in one-car accident over the weekend near the interchange of Interstate 55 and Interstate 10.The Louisiana State Police said 44-year-old Steven Acosta was driving south Saturday on I-55 when he lost control of his 2006 Mazda Tribute shortly before 10 a.m. The vehicle struck a guardrail before overturning multiple times.

Logan Young, Acosta's step son, was transported to River Parishes Hospital, where the boy was later pronounced dead.

Acosta and his wife, Shana Acosta, were transported to River Parishes Hospital. They both suffered minor injuries.

Authorities said driver impairment is not suspected. They attributed the crash to speed and weather.
