Earlier this week the cast and crew of the wildly popular NBC daytime drama 'Days of Our Lives' were put on 'indefinite hiatus', and were released from their contracts. The show, set in the fictional town of Salem, has been on the air since November 8, 1965, and was currently filming their 55th season. The soap opera has not actually been cancelled, and some sources are telling People that it will more than likely return.

According to TMZ, the episodes are shot about 8 months in advance, so there is plenty of drama left until producers decide if they are going to re-new the show for season 56. The TV series has won 'Outstanding Drama Series' at the Daytime Emmy Awards a total of four times, and has been nominated dozens more. I have such a sentimental connection to this show - growing up watching it during the summertime with my grandmother. I hope it's not the end! The iconic opening theme song is below, with the memorable words 'Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives'
