Delta Flight Crashes on Landing in Toronto, Plane Flips Upside Down
A Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport crashed upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, ultimately coming to rest upside down on the runway.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Delta Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, was carrying 80 passengers and crew members when the incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time. Emergency response teams quickly arrived on the scene to assist with evacuations and assess the situation.
Toronto Pearson Airport officials confirmed that all passengers and crew members have been accounted for. However, reports indicate multiple injuries, with some individuals transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries remains unclear at this time.
Images and videos shared on social media depict the CRJ-900 aircraft overturned, with smoke rising from the wreckage. Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, but initial reports suggest challenging wintry conditions may have played a role.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has taken the lead in the investigation, working alongside the FAA to determine what led to the crash.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents flight crew members, released a statement confirming that their members were aboard the aircraft and emphasized that there were no reported fatalities.
This incident comes just weeks after a deadly mid-air collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and weeks of debate and concerns over aviation safety.
Authorities are expected to release further updates as this developing situation unfolds.
