The family of 18-year-old Brett Dyson is grieving after he drowned in a canal off of Charlie Field Road in Erath Saturday.

According to our news partner KATC, the teen's father said Dyson was fishing with his juvenile cousin when he fell into the canal and was caught in the current.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the emergency call at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday. Respondents assisting with the search included members of the Sheriff's Office Marine Division and first responders from the Erath and Leblanc Fire Departments.

The Vermilion Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Dyson dead at the scene.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
